A Single Space Built for Two
Same Room is an intentionally intimate property conceived around one idea: that two people deserve a place where nothing competes for attention. Set at coordinates -8.663786, 115.255273 in the verdant interior of Bali, the property occupies a position between the ceremonial landscape of the island's central corridor and the quieter southern lanes that run toward the sea. The architecture draws on traditional Balinese principles of orientation and proportion, with open pavilion framing, exposed alang-alang thatch detailing, and hand-laid stone that references the volcanic material found throughout this part of the island.
Inside, the palette is warm and deliberately spare. Raw plaster walls in ochre and sand tones absorb the changing quality of daylight across the day. Timber details — salvaged teak joinery, carved door surrounds — provide warmth without ornament for its own sake. The bedroom and its attached spaces have been arranged so that nothing feels left over or incidental; every surface, every piece of furniture, serves a clear purpose for the two guests who occupy it.
The surrounding neighbourhood carries the unhurried rhythm characteristic of this part of Bali. Narrow lanes give way to family compounds, small warungs, and rice fields that have been cultivated on the same terraces for generations. The absence of resort-scale development in the immediate vicinity means that the sounds at dusk are insects, distant gamelan practice, and wind through the palm canopy rather than traffic or amplified music.
Practically, Same Room is positioned within a comfortable drive of the main commercial areas of Ubud and the southern beach towns, making it straightforward to reach restaurants, markets, or cultural sites when the mood arises. The property accommodates a maximum of two guests and is suited to couples or solo travellers seeking quality of experience over quantity of amenity. Direct bookings are welcomed and receive the host's full personal attention from first inquiry through to departure.
Fiber-based connection with password provided on arrival. Suitable for video calls and remote work throughout the property.
Secure off-street parking within the property gate for one vehicle. Motorbike parking also available at no additional charge.
Manual pour-over kit stocked with locally sourced Balinese single-origin ground coffee. Kettle, filtered water, and milk provided daily.
Inverter-type air conditioning unit in the main bedroom, operable from a wall remote. Set range between 18 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Rain shower and handheld head with constant hot water. Locally made natural toiletries — shampoo, conditioner, body wash — replenished daily.
King-size bed dressed with 400-thread-count cotton linens. Two sets of pillows at different firmness levels. Lightweight and heavier blankets both provided.
Housekeeping visits each morning during checkout hours. Towels refreshed daily; full linen change every third day or on request.
Fully enclosed garden with a lockable gate ensures complete privacy for both the indoor and outdoor areas of the property at all times.
Large-diameter ceiling fan with five speed settings runs silently and provides effective air movement as an alternative to air conditioning at night.
55-inch smart TV with streaming apps pre-installed, including Netflix. HDMI input available for personal device connections.
Same-day laundry available on request at a standard local rate. Items collected before 9 a.m. are returned by 6 p.m. the same day.
Keybox entry allows arrival at any hour without coordination. Full arrival instructions and a property guide sent 48 hours before check-in.
The primary sleeping space is oriented toward the garden and receives direct morning light. Teak joinery, locally woven textiles, and a low platform bed establish a grounded, unhurried atmosphere for two guests.
A walled private garden with mature shade trees and volcanic stone paving wraps the property on two sides, providing sheltered outdoor living space from early morning through to after sunset.
The bathroom pairs a carved stone basin with an open-air shower fitted with rain and handheld heads. Natural cross-ventilation and indirect daylight from a skylight keep the space fresh at all hours.
A dedicated sitting zone within the main pavilion offers low rattan seating, a focused reading lamp, and a small side table — arranged for two people to occupy the same space independently or together.
A thatched-roof terrace extends directly from the main room, furnished with a wide day bed and two low chairs that face the rice field edge. The overhang handles afternoon rain without closing the view.
You arrive along a lane flanked by stone walls and offering trees. The gate opens directly into the property's private garden, and there is no reception desk, no lobby, no queue. The key is already inside. The first thing most guests notice is the silence — not an absence of sound, but a quality of sound particular to this part of Bali, where the layered textures of the landscape replace the noise of a city.
Mornings at Same Room begin with light. The eastern aspect of the main room means that sunrise arrives early and moves across the hand-plastered walls in stages, from amber to gold to a clear, flat white by mid-morning. Breakfast can be arranged, or you walk five minutes to the nearest warung for black rice porridge and strong Balinese coffee served in a glass. The morning is yours entirely.
By afternoon the air thickens pleasantly and the shade of the property's mature trees becomes the obvious place to be. The surrounding landscape rewards a slow walk — rice terraces, a small pura, a stream crossing — and the kind of observation that is only possible when you are not managing luggage, schedules, or a group. Late afternoon light in this part of Bali has a particular quality, low and amber, that photographers and painters have sought here for decades.
Evening settles the landscape into a cooler register. Dinner might be at one of the nearby warungs where the cooking is unchanged by tourism, or something brought back and eaten in the garden. The room itself — lit by warm-temperature bulbs at low levels — becomes a different space after dark, quieter and more interior. Two people with nowhere else to be: that is the specific situation Same Room is built for.

15 minutes by car
The ground-floor section of Ubud's main market operates from 5 a.m. and stocks fresh local produce, spices, and prepared food used by local households daily.

20 minutes by car
A paved ridge path above the Campuhan river valley offers 90 minutes of easy walking through tall grass and open sky, finishing near Ubud's main street.

8 minutes by scooter
A family-run warung producing dishes from local recipes unchanged for three generations. The babi guling on Sundays is prepared from early morning.
The Ubud market, the ridge walk, and the rice field lanes all share a quality that disappears by nine o'clock. Here is how to read the landscape before the tour buses arrive, and where to eat when you come back.
Balinese architecture is organised around orientation, not ornament. This piece traces the principles behind the open pavilion, the walled garden, and the volcanic materials that give properties in this part of the island their particular presence.
The lane warungs south of Tegallalang are where Ubud's chefs source their breakfast. Four spots within fifteen minutes of the rice terraces that serve local food to local people at honest prices — and one coffee stop worth the detour.
Standard check-in is from 2 p.m. The property uses a keybox, so self-check-in is available at any hour if you are arriving on a late flight or early morning ferry. Full instructions and the keybox code are sent 48 hours before arrival.
Check-out is by 11 a.m. Late check-out until 2 p.m. is available upon request and subject to availability. Please message the host the evening before if you would like to arrange this — there is no additional charge in most cases.
Same Room accommodates a maximum of two guests. The property is designed specifically for a couple or two close friends and is not suitable for additional guests, children, or infants due to the layout and single sleeping space.
Yes. Secure off-street parking for one car is available within the walled property. Motorbike parking is also available for guests who rent a scooter locally, which is the most practical way to explore the surrounding area independently.
Pets are not accommodated at Same Room. The open garden design and proximity to the local community make it impractical to host animals. We appreciate your understanding and ask that this be respected when booking.
